Serbia – National Park Fruska Gora

About location
Fruska Gora is the oldest national park in Serbia, which used to be an island during the existence of the Pannonian Sea and now is a mountain. It is known for the numerous monasteries built between the 15th and 18th centuries. Today, 16 out of 35 original monasteries remain open to visitors. National Park Fruska Gora is also known for its wineries, and according to the legends and remains, grapes were first planted here by Romans in AD 3.
Flora at Fruska Gora mountain is very diverse and specific, with 1500 flora species flourishing in the protected zone of the national park. The forests cover about 90 % of the total surface of the National Park.
This park is known as the Jewel of Serbia due to its pristine landscape, but also, as the Serbian Mount Athos, as it is the home of a large number of monumental monasteries.

North Macedonia – National Park Galichica

About location
Galicica National Park lays in the southwestern part of Macedonia, on the Galicica mountain massif, including part of its branches East and Petrino, and the island of Golem Grad at Lake Prespa.
The park is a seedbed of biodiversity, and it stands out from other similar areas by the exceptional richness of habitats and species in a relatively small area.
On an area of about 24,000 hectares, there are more than 37 habitat types, 40 plant communities, about 1600 taxa of vascular plants, over 143 species of lichenoid fungi, more than 480 species of fungi and over 3279 taxa of fauna.

Montenegro – National Park Durmitor
About location
Durmitor is a mountain massif and national park in northwest Montenegro and is the most popular travel spot in the north. It was named a National Park in 1952, and it has been on the UNESCO’s List of World Natural and Cultural Heritage since 1980.
Durmitor has 370 square kilometres and includes the Tara Canyon, River Sušica and River Draga, and the higher section of the plateau of Komarnica.
Crno Jezero, or the Black Lake, is an upscale tourist attraction consisting of two lakes known independently as the small lake and the great lake. A popular 3.5-kilometre pathway runs around the lake, affording excellent views of the surrounding mountains.

Kosovo – National Park Bjeshkët e Nemuna (Prokletije)
About location
This park is located on the border of Kosovo, Montenegro and Albania. Its surface in Kosovo is 625 km2. Because of its characteristic geographical location, it has an interesting geological structure and is very rich in water. Due to its biological and landscape diversity, it was announced as the National Park in January 2013.
Bjeshket e Nemuna has more than 1,000 plant species examined so far.

Bosnia & Herzegovina – National Park Drina
About location
This area is a unique complex and part of the Dinaric Old Vlach-Raska height.
The original value is mirrored in the habitats of endemic and relict plant species, primarily Pančić’s Spruce and the gorge-canyon valley of the Drina River and its tributaries.
The gorge-canyon valley of the river Drina has the characteristics of a canyon with steep, vertical sides. Its most impressive part is at the mouth of Crni Potok, where the canyon is 976 meters deep.

Albania – National Park Theth
About location
Legend has it that Theth was founded 400 years ago by 6 brothers, and individual parts of the village still bear the names of these brothers. The most striking mountain peaks are the Peak of Jezerca (Albanian highest peak), lying just outside the park at the north of the valley.
Almost two-thirds of the park is covered in woods, out of which many are considered primaeval forests. The Theth Park is intersected by numerous rivers and rapids and it has 110 sunny days per year.
The diversity of habitats is closely related to the Mountain-Mediterranean climate, with the recorded existence of at least 1650 plant species within the confines of the Theth National Park.
